Jack Daniel's Racing team-mates Todd and Rick Kelly have qualified 14th and 16th respectively at the Nikon SuperGP on the Gold Coast today.
The brothers were disappointed to miss out on an appearance in tomorrow morning's Top 10 Shootout but are confident that there is more to come from both Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodores around the 4.47-kilometre street circuit.
In the first practice session of the day Todd Kelly was fastest, also catching attention for making contact with the tyre wall at the second chicane. The clash only caused cosmetic damage, with two new doors fitted to the #7 Jack Daniel's Commodore.
It was a hectic qualifying session today with several on-track incidents preventing drivers from completing a fast lap around the Surfers Paradise street circuit.
Mark Winterbottom won provisional pole in qualifying today ahead of Jamie Whincup and Russell Ingall.
JACK DANIEL'S RACING QUOTEBOARD
Rick Kelly - #7 Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodore:
"To be honest I'm a little bit disappointed with that because the Jack Daniel's Commodore is better than where I put it in qualifying," said Rick Kelly.
"On my first set of green tyres in that second qualifying session I made a couple of mistakes and we didn't really get a good time in.
"That put us a little bit out of sync and I didn't get a lap in on my second set of greens.
"It's just a bit of a bummer because it's difficult to pass around here so we're just going to have to pull a cat out of the bag tomorrow.
"I'd already bypassed a chicane when I came across the cars (Bright and Ingall) but I can see how it would have held some other cars up.
"There's been some crazy stuff go down today with the amount of red flags, but that's just part and parcel with everyone trying their best."
Todd Kelly - #7 Jack Daniel's Racing Holden Commodore:
"We had a top 10 car before that qualifying session but we obviously missed something there," said Todd Kelly.
"We hoped to be miles further up the order than that so both Rick and I are pretty annoyed.
"One of the biggest dramas out there was that on our last chance at a fast lap on our second set of tyres, (Mark) Winterbottom was dicking around through the first two chicanes before he pulled off.
"It messed up my flow through the first sector so who knows where we could have been, but we should have done better."
